Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O can’t go on together…with suspicious minds! Ignore the mugshot/album cover, N-Type is one funny dude. How funny? Funny enough to use a week’s hour and half of Rinse FM airtime to play nothing but 70’s and 80’s pop tunes back in October. From “Red Red Wine” to more obscure boogie funk, dude goes […]

Sach O’s hungover muhfuckers. Celph Titled, now there’s a name I didn’t think I’d see again. I’d love to tell you all about how “The Godz Must Be Crazy” was one of the great unsung EPs of the early 00’s but there’ll be time to reminisce on the Demigodz another day. Currently my brain has […]

Sach O doesn’t own a car, let alone a garage. MTL has a dope subway yo’. UK Garage never truly caught on the first time around in North-America. Too busy getting jiggy to our own, we didn’t have time for London’s champagne fueled dance craze: rap albums were selling 5 million copies! It didn’t help […]

Sach O’s living in the Odd Present. Odd Future has potential but isn’t quite there yet. That’s OK, they’re young and they’ve got plenty of time to develop their sound and grow into something special. What’s not OK is the way the Faderfork crowd is breathlessly hyping the sensationalistic aspects of what they’re doing over, […]

Sach O killed the Radio Star. He also has a Tumblr. Reading Jeff’s post on the wonderful (and nostalgiatastic!) Stretch and Bobbito reunion, I couldn’t help but think of my current radio listening in starkly opposite terms to the scarcity he describes. As a Rinse listener, I’m flooded with hour after hour of raw, uncut […]

Sach O’s still promoting that Son Raw mix, bruv. There are approximately 765 Bass music shows going down in MTL each week (give or take) and so I try to promote sparingly, reserving praise for the really real. Cartel Thursdays, last mentioned here when bringing in Appleblim, have become favorites of mine, presenting an alternative […]

Sach O: R.I.P Gregory Isaacs October 25, 2010
For most, few words are better apt to describe Gregory Isaacs’ on-record personality than “The lonely Lover”. Despite a career spanning 30 years and containing classic Roots material on par with the masters, Isaacs will first and foremost be remembered as a loverman and a singer of unparalleled romance. Whether backed by the dusty dubs […]

It’s A Vandal Ting! Deep Dubstep And Dark Funk by Son Raw on Mixcloud  Sach O’s evil twin Son Raw has no respect for property values. Oh yeah, you didn’t think it was over, did you motherfuckers? You didn’t think you could get through another season without Son Raw dropping some more bassweight on all […]

Sach O travels the untrodden path. Fair warning: I will not shut up about LHF. Though I don’t have any particularly pertinent new information to add to my last write-up of the crew, I feel compelled to simply repeat my previous overarching points (only LOUDER). These guys are making some of the most exciting music […]

Sach O throws tantrums not fits. At the top of the year, I wrote a post on an impressionable young man named Matthew Hiscock whose off-kilter beats, unlike most other unsolicited music I receive,  somehow managed to get into my iTunes playlist. To his credit, they were very good beats. Since then, Matthew has wisely […]
