Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O: Old Apparatus January 27, 2011
As a Grad student, Sach O gets a boner when people use words like “Apparatus.” With UK Bass gone Funky, Neon, Automatic, Instrumental Grime and Mala-knows-what-else in light of its continuing rise in profile, it’s easy to forget that some of the best music to emerge from this musical continuum simply can’t function under the […]

Sach O is lobbying to host “Yo! MTV Grime!” For a man with a stage name befitting a Marvel Comics super villain, Terror Danjah’s a nice guy. I recently caught up with the Grime Don at Montreal’s Igloofest and asked him a couple questions about his career resurgence, the state of Grime in London, some […]

Sach O went out partying this weekend despite his illness. Send him music to help his recovery. “Climbing and Other Pursuits” may sound like the title to a 1940’s guide to Alpine activities but there’s no doubting the song’s soul credentials. Anchored by a Footwork-style, chopped up R&B sample (by you know who) and a […]

Elijah & Skilliam – Feat Starkey & P Money – Rinse Fm 13/1/11 by Elijah & Skilliam on Mixcloud One of these days, I’ll actually get through my planned “Bluffer’s Guide to Rinse FM”. Such ambitious plans will have to wait however as I’m currently feverish and delirious (I actually think I enjoyed Lil B’s […]

Sach O is also known as Son Rawski. This came out in December which might as well be a million years ago in Internet time, but I’m guessing that like me, you guys don’t spend time on blogs called Discobelle searching out club remixes by mustachioed Frenchmen with the prefix “Bro” in their names. (A […]

Photo by Hong-An Nguyen The above was stage left last-night at Igloofest while London-via-France producer DeBruit was rocking his Tropical, Afro-Beat inspired rhythms for a crowd of God-knows-how-many-thousand-people. I’d post another to give you an approximate idea of just how big that crowd was but our camera batteries froze shortly after arriving. Needless to say, […]

Sach O used his Shaolin poison to set up your master. Rae’s got the juice now. With the knowledge of an older God and a rekindled fire that has him out-spitting young Turks left and right, The Chef has the “elder rap statesman that can still rap” spot in a sleeper-hold and it doesn’t look […]

Sach O’s rocking Sean John long johns with a bubble goose. Though we’ve never established a strict policy around here in regards to local coverage, there’s an unspoken agreement that geographically-specific concerns are to be considered sparingly. Momentous occasions such as Lakers victories in LA or incredible gigs in Montreal get the props but otherwise, […]

Sach O never ate ham, never gave a damn. I always warm up to Kanye West singles after a while but as of yet, this one leaves me pretty cold. Lex Lugor’s beat deviates slightly from his standard fare – same old southern hi-hats now with sampled orchestral stuff instead of synthesized orchestral stuff – […]

There’s a limit to Sach O’s love. Breathlessly hyped since his debut on wax, James Blake’s ascent through the world of electronic music has been a peculiar one. Nominally a member of the post-dubstep community bringing bassweight to England’s longstanding art pop tradition, he’s so far managed to avoid defining himself by jumping from concept […]
