Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O gets mad when people talk about “Canadian” electronic music – as if the whole country’s supposed to sound the same. Had Egyptrixx’s Toronto origins not been prominently advertised in interviews, I’d have probably assumed that he was yet another UK producer on the come-up given Bible Eyes’ funky foundation and sense of space. […]

Sach O‘s favorite line from this film: “Smoke a spliff and make some dub, why would you want to do anything else?” Some old testament shit right here, if you can wrap your mind around how something from 2006 can feel a million years old. This DIY doc on Bristol’s nascent Dubstep scene probably won’t […]

Sach O just wanted an excuse to post that logo. The word “Rave” evokes remarkably different things to different people. For aging British music critics, it’s that wonderfully idyllic moment in music when everyone was dancing to the same, musically progressive, anti-Thatcher beat. You know, before Oasis came and reminded the world that dude…the Beatles […]

You can check Sach O’s French all you want, he speaks it fluent. Jeff and Douglas swear by Chaz Bundick’s recorded output whereas I’m rather apathetic to his kind of cloudy, dusty, lounge-funk and most stuff that’s emerged since Chillwave’s initial umm…wave. Too slow and I prefer my yacht-related music with more RAWSE. Still, I’d […]

Sach O‘s background sings, his background sings for the Crossover. As we speak, Lupe Fiasco is curled up in the fetal position trying to figure out where exactly he went wrong. For my money, he stopped being interesting sometime between changing the track list for Food & Liquor and claiming 8Ball is a better emcee […]

Follow Sach O on Twitter. He’s starting to get the hang of it. Note to Gringo rappers: rhyming over Dubstep isn’t easy. Try some cutesy bullshit and you’ll end up looking like an ass-out trend hopper desperate for attention. Word to this abortion with the fake T.I style hook. Thankfully, Zilla Rocca, my #1 source […]

Sach O doesn’t watch sports so he roots for the home team musically I’ll start reviewing albums again when I start listening to them and I’ll get that Rinse-Guide up as soon as I finish it (sometime this year hopefully). Until then, here’s some Sunday Morning vibes from Montreal’s Bowly whose recent European tour culminated […]

Sach O never got down with Nu-Rave. Too many stupid haircuts and glowsticks. My infatuation with Grime continues unabated, to the degree where I can usually understand what the emcees are talking about now. Sure, the mainstream stuff is mostly horrid electro-house but the underground inhabits the fruitful melting pot of rave, rap and reggae […]

Sach O found this via Oneman’s Tumblr. I’ll be the first to admit that musicians losing it over other musicians’ technical prowess is annoying as fuck. Guitar mags, rappers discussing breath control and anything with the prefix “prog” stand as sufficient proof. But Cot-Damn, Oneman can mix. As a DJ, whenever I hear this guy […]

Sach O: Meet the BLKHRTS February 22, 2011
Sach O grew up black hearted. Sometimes, good music finds you. A few weeks ago, Zilla sent us a link to the BLKHRTS Bandcamp page, claiming they were like ” M.O.P meets Morrissey,” a risky if intriguing proposition. A few streams and an EP purchase later, I was hooked with the combination of 2K10 production, […]
