Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O played a lot of videogames as a kid. Posting from yours truly may be on the anemic side this month as term papers are a motherfucker. If you’re truly in need of my rantings I suggest you follow me on Twitter where the 140 character limit and fractional audience currently best suit my […]

Sach O’s all about some hardcore (yeah he likes it raw) I’m a little torn here. Against all odds, Jacques Greene manages to rescue straight-up deep House, a genre of music I’ve always identified with jet-setting human beings best not urinated on in cases of spontaneous combustion, and pushes it into a bass music framework. […]

Sach O wants to see Joe Nice and Prime Minister Pete Nice duke it out. Dubstepforum award nominated mix series, Montreal institution and all around dope website J’aime le Dubstep celebrated its 100th release earlier this week in grand fashion with an exclusive 40 minute blast of unreleased music courtesy of American bass ambassador Joe […]

Sach O doesn’t belong to anyone. He EVOLVES. With the critical and commercial success of Only Built for Cuban Linx 2, Raekwon the Chef instantly nullified 10 years worth of disappointments, false starts and taunts from rap fans who’d long since stopped checking for him. So spectacular was this return to form that it’s easy […]

Sach O is all about listening to dystopian shit in 2011. I’ll hold back for my full review but you need Kode9 and the Spaceape’s upcoming Black Sun. Universally ignored by a Hip-Hop underground, their 2006 debut Memories of the Future may have been the decade’s best slice of Afrofuturist sci-fi since Deltron 3030 and […]

Sach O wants more Twitter followers to sustain his delusions of grandeur. Understatement: Wiley is a complicated artist. If you think Lupe Fiasco renouncing Lasers is a weird move, Wiley does that kind of shit on the regular. To good albums. Before dissing his label. And dropping hundreds of low quality tracks on Twitter. It’s […]

Sach O: Burial – Ego March 15, 2011
Because Burial is quickly turning into the rap Jeff Mangum, any sign of new material has become a cause for celebration but Ego puts to rest any notion of the mysterious producer being overhyped. His music quite simply sounds like nothing else out there, its dusty, dubby, nostalgic take on UK Garage remaining inimitable even […]

Son Raw is gonna start rocking a mask and hiding out like Burial. The monthly rounds of self-promotion are beginning to get uncomfortable but plug I must; one of the benefits of hiring a DJ with a media platform is that he’ll ostensibly use said media platform to promote your event. False modesty aside however, […]

Sach O prefers Bass to base. That’s fish and sub frequencies. 9th Wonder and Lil B deserve each other. Both are over hyped internet monstrosities created in the labs of insular rap ideologues, both ultimately make very boring music and both compensate (or compensated in 9th’s case) by releasing so much material that it’s easy […]

With all respect due to J Dilla, Biggie may very well be the only musician whose death truly hit me on an emotional level. Maybe it’s junior high nostalgia or East coast bias but year after year, I rock all black on March 9th and pay my respects to an artist taken in the prime […]
