Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O avoided sunburn while drinking copious amounts of white wine. He’s going to tell you about it. If you see DJs frantically performing reverse rain dances in Montreal, you know Piknic season has arrived. The climatically superior brother of Igloofest, Piknic Electronik is the city’s 21st century bread and circuses: a weekly, mainstream,  outdoor […]

Son Raw @ DJWeb.TV June 17, 2011
Son Raw could have probably done a bit more for the camera. As usual, I’m loathe to use this site for personal gain but this is pretty cool: see that video up there? That’s a stream of my performance last night on DJWeb.TV’s Beat Freakz show complete with trippy psychedelic effects and transitions. A-live-in-the-studio recording […]

Sach O urges you to get on the Orange Line. Martin Clark (AKA Blackdown) really likes London. If the LDN catalogue prefix to his Keysound label wasn’t enough to clue you in, he’s spent the past several years putting out records that have sought to capture English urbanity in its purest form, be it Patois-inflected […]

Sach O thinks the only thing this video is missing is a Kool Keith sample. At this point Benga is Dubstep royalty, touring the festival circuit and dropping bombastic riffs – as a rockstar of his caliber should. When I caught him a few months ago with partner in crime Skream, I found their set […]

Sach O: lol – Me Me June 14, 2011
The only thing Sach O hates about this are the band name and album title. Synthesis: the combination of two or more entities that together form something new. It sounds simple but based on the amount of records these past few years that seemed intent on recreating previous musical movements without adding anything new, you’d […]

Sach O can’t wait to play this live. When I briefly spoke with Kevin Martin last year for an interview that never got published, he was thoughtful, respectful and genuinely interested in having a productive discussion about both his work and music in general. I always have trouble reconciling this with the fact that he […]

Sach O was pleasantly surprised by this one. I don’t know what I hate more: lazy, uninspired hard-Dubstep or lazy, uninspired music journos complaining about hard Dubstep. The former is unlistenable and has single-handedly given the genre a bad rap while the later has resulted in some of the worst stylistic discrimination in music writing […]

Sach O once tried durian. It’s raining cats, dogs and other assorted animals in Montreal today which means I’m staying home, nursing a hangover, listening to The Wailers and Lee Perry’s African Herbsman and pondering the path Reggae might have taken had Bob Marley not become a rock star. I’m also enjoying this ultra-deep Nina […]

Son Raw is Sach O for those who don’t know. Summer Jamz is an ever-changing experience for me. When I dropped my first mix in the series way back in 2008, I was traveling the South-Asian seas and decided to send something in a whim because I hadn’t done any music writing in 6 months. […]

Sach O hasn’t been to a warehouse jam in a minute. I’ll continue to ride for Mutant Bass Records’ free releases as long as they keep-free releasing them. 130 One-shmirthy*: crank those BPMS up, throw on some air horns and rave divas and let’s take it back to the warehouse days. The pick of the […]
