Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O is a helluva drug. As the resident Odd Future cheerleader/apologist, I feel compelled to post this ASAP. What can I say? I don’t find myself listening to much rap these days but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis angry teenaged hooligans. Still, even my famously Tyler-averse compatriots have got to support this: […]

Son Raw listens to too many records. Son Raw, not Sach O: which is to say that this is a list of my favorite singles to play out rather than an ostensibly objective journalistic account of the 20 biggest tunes of the year. Not that I chose a lot of of obscurities here but rather […]

Photo by Miguel Legault Sach O danced so much that day, he sweat through his shirt. Untold’s set at Piknic will undoubtedly go down as a summer highlight around here: nothing like dope beats, a massive soundsystem, perfect weather and a beautiful sunset to end a great weekend. While our late night interview with the […]

Sach O doesn’t really want to think about the state of local radio. “Now I don’t mind being stuck in traffic cuz I can listen to Rinse.FM all day.” Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a difference. While Jay and Kanye unveiled a gaudy album cover for an album that promises to be about […]

Sach O: demented raver in a quarter-life crisis. Happy 4th from your neighbors to the North. May it be filled with grilled meats, fireworks and no old British ladies on your money. I’m a fan of UK Bass, the UK Monarchy? Not so much. I have no idea what Hissy Fit’s politics are but he […]

Son Raw really hated it when Canadian rappers said they were from the “North Coast” Hyperdub, like Dr. Octagon, moves on to the year 3000. While the music press understandably wets its collective drawers for every Burial release, Kode 9’s label stretches miles beyond Will Bevan’s shadowy Garage by cultivating a balance between the experimentalist […]

Sach O is opening for MRK1 tomorrow at the Belmont in MTL. He’ll be playing Spartan. Grime is not Hip-Hop in the same way dancehall isn’t, except when it is. London’s subgenre of urban music has always been divided between the mainstream dream of successful UK rap and the underground desire to break away from […]

Sach O can’t believe this shit. We should have seen this coming. Last year’s “Dipset Trance party” mixtape may have sounded like an Onion headline but it nevertheless existed, daring you to listen to it for a laugh before realizing that no one was trying to be funny. Electronic Dream is even more straight faced: […]

Sach O is on his way to Piknik Apologies for the Tim Westwood nonsense but every other Youtube rip of this tune has been going down faster than a drunk Kardashian in an NBA locker room: skip to 3:30 to avoid the reloads. Twisting a nonsense catchphrase into an anti-snitching anthem, the Dirtee Stank posse […]

Sach O doesn’t play well with others on the playground. I’m not going to argue about it. When it came time to submit mid-year lists for the site, I saw that I had maybe a choice or two in common with some of the other guys and said “Fuck it, all good, Ima do me”. […]
