Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O had been waiting to catch Portishead live for just over 10 years. At the risk of of being redundant, here’s what you need to know about seeing Portishead live: first, their back-catalog is essentially flawless and second, their live versions are note-for-note perfect as well. There weren’t too many surprises at last night […]

Sach O is strapped like a squirrel with a gat. Once again it’s on. The fine folks at J’Aime Le Dubstep have seen fit to release my newest studio mix (my first one in a minute actually) and it’s a scorcher if I do say so myself. Going by vibe rather by genre, I went […]

Sach O seen ya standin’ on the corner over there and he knows you ain’t down with his team. Twitter milestones are the new Billboard certifications, at least in the sub-celebrity realm of Bass music. Having just reached the big 5-triple-0, Night Slugs affiliate Mosca has gone out and dropped a couple of free joints […]

Sach O: Ghettoteknitianz October 4, 2011
AllSachOdoizsmoketreez. Footwork is strange stuff. I’ve seen it clear floors but I’ve also seen girls go crazy for it. Often times, it comes down to whether the DJ has a genuine feel for the genre, an all too rare occasion at a time when every other trainspotter is adopting Juke for purposes of fashion. In […]

Sach O considers this payback for The Hives. Between Korn’s Skrillex-assisted bid for relevance and Pitchfork broadcasting James Blake’s claim that girls aren’t into Brostep, this hasn’t been a great week for hard electronic music, at least on paper. Numbers don’t lie however: when DeadMau5 and Excision have a 4 day residency at the biggest […]

Sach O has absolutely nothing bad to say about this lineup. Kudos Adult Swim. Once upon a time, music was released by these companies called “labels” and people “purchased” it with pieces of paper called “money.” It was a heady era, dizzy with hubris: did you know that Drag-On actually released 2 albums through a […]

Sach O fell off? Myth. More deliriously evil beats from LDN, this time in the form of a remix package from Spartan producer and scene stalwart Spooky. The strategy is simple: take some ill beats, chop them into a fine paste and reassemble into a Frankensteined version half-short and twice strong. The overall effect recalls […]

Sach O: TRC – The Leak September 20, 2011
Sach O wonders if a producer will ever empty out his hard drive and call it “the dump.” And the flood of free beats does not abate. If this were an era in which music required physical discs of plastic to be distributed, I’d bust out the old chestnut about being buried alive in the […]

Sach O: Butterz Autumn Zip September 19, 2011
But now it’s the fall, Sach O’s having a ball and letting his nickel sacks crawl. Rinse.FM Grime dons Elijah and Skilliam announced that they’ve got next in the esteemed station’s official Mix CD series, promising “the best of the Butterz label, the best of the year and a couple of dubplate only gems.” For […]

Son Raw needs a dope DJ crew name. Suggestions? Don’t worry: this isn’t Footwoork mixed with dodgy Dubstep sounds…it’s just Footwork. While I’m not entirely sold on the iconography, Paris producer Leatherface’s take on the once-emerging-now-red-hot Footwork sound is proof that the subgenre is mutating and developing just as fast outside of Chicago as in […]
