Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O geeked out during this show I could go on and on about how awesome last night’s Grime-producer allstar session on Rinse was, but by now, that would probably be preaching to the converted. Instead, allow me to briefly explain WHY I’m so enamored with instrumental Grime, despite the lack of mainstream hype surrounding […]

Sach O has been charged with disturbing the peace. Say what you want about the current state of Dubstep but the genre and its variants have certainly captured the public imagination and caused a whole lot of bandwagon jumping by artists who otherwise would have no interest in the stuff. From Korn employing an army […]

Sach O would have written more today but he had to get through this Franz Fanon book. In which an academically inclined multi-cultural beatmaker takes on the prison industrial complex and 90s Hip-Hop video stereotypes. I’ll let her tell it: “Hip Hop Spa posits an uncanny parallel between the luxurious solitary confinement of a spa […]

Sach O went to hell for snuffin’ Satan. Fuck “coulda been,” State Prop can still be contenders. Not in the major leagues of course, the idea that Freeway could ever actually break into the American mainstream is absurd, but no squad from the last decade has more potential to corner the semi-lucrative underground market. Club […]

Sach O’s wardrobe is provided by Adidas, Turntablelab and the Chatuchak market. Fuck that other shit. America, I don’t know if I’m pissed off at you or just disappointed right now but you’ve got to do better. This whole “hey let’s dress-up like our parents ate lead paint chips while we were in the womb” […]

Sach O will pay good money to see this band. They better hit up Montreal. Hey dude! The Stone Roses are reuniting! What’s that? You’ve never heard of the Stone Roses? WTF man, they were like Pavement for England except with better drugs, only one good album and they sounded nothing like Pavement. My point […]

Sach O thinks you should have a seat. Joni Mitchell never lies: you don’t know what you got till it’s gone. Too often, special moments in musical history are swallowed by the tide of progress as producers constantly reinvent themselves searching for the next sound. On one hand it’s healthy, on the other hand fans […]

Oh you mad bitch cuz Sach O‘s laying on the couch. I’ve been trying to figure out what to write about this video for a few days now but frankly, all analysis is useless. It’s a video for a song called “Bitch Suck Dick”: you already know if you’ll like this or not. For what […]

Sach O had a rough weekend. House of Balloons may very well top my personal year end list – a stunning occurrence that simultaneously defies all conventional logic yet somehow still makes perfect sense in my musical universe. On one hand, the melodrama of contemporary R&B isn’t my bag, I’m perpetually stuck in the early […]
