Son Raw
Son Raw is Passion of the Weiss’ resident expert in Urban Electronic sounds, which means that he specializes in music with a lot of air horns, gun shots, broken beats and laser sounds. Having written about Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Bass Music and Grime and having DJ’ed everywhere from Los Angeles’ Low End Theory to Paris’ Rinse France and London’s NTSLive – we figure he knows what he’s talking about.

When asked to describe his musical philosophy he mumbled something about musical viruses and “searching for the next fix" before concluding that sunshine does indeed play a major part in the daytime.

Sach O‘s alternate post title: Ramadanman vs. Oneman – FITE! We interrupt your weekend and my endless march through the depths of academia to bring you this all-vinyl set from some of London’s finest. While I occasionally gripe about how gentrified and blog friendly London Bass music has become (irony noted), Hessle Audio have long […]

Sach O wants to smack the Grammy nomination committee till they stop nominating. And breathing. Legendary DMZ producer Coki’s predicament reminds me of Raekwon’s late 90s situation: what do you do when an entire musical Universe bites your style and proceeds to miss the point entirely? As the innovator behind Dubstep’s wobbling bass lines, Coki […]

Sach O: Zomby’s Labyrinth December 1, 2011
Sach O kinda wishes this track had a Bowie sample. Zomby’s a weird dude. Unseen but always tweeting, dedicated to the future but still holding a torch for old school rave, constantly in demand but only occasionally making gigs. When he’s not busy chastising American reviewers for their take on British music, he’s reblogging chopped […]

Sach O: Vilify Steps Up. November 29, 2011
Sach O is going to grab a couple of tunes off of this one. Photo by Thorium Photography. Anyone can mix a couple of MP3s and call themselves a DJ this foul era – you find the hyped up genre of the day, jump on, have your lil’ 15 minutes and then you’re out the […]

Sach O shouldn’t have listened to this beat after a large coffee. Prodigy isn’t the most popular of rappers to champion these days but I’ll always ride by the Mobb Deep stalwart. Return of the Mac is still one of my favorite rap albums of the last decade and what Bandana P’s flow lost in […]

Sach O: Who da Coldest? November 25, 2011
Son Raw is going to get ravey As mentioned in this morning post, I’m in promo mode these days – kissing hands, shaking babies and generally spreading the word about my various endeavors to the offline massive – you know, in da streets never industry. It’s been a rousing success so far, something I attribute […]

Sach O: Ital Tek X DOOM November 25, 2011
MF Sach. Pardon the lack of writing while we get our house in order – I’m currently in the midsts of a term paper and promotional hell that’s hardly conductive to pontificating on the newest Spaceghostpurrp release. In the meantime, Planet Mu stalwart Ital Tek just liberated this dusty DOOM bootleg that’s been sitting on […]

Sach O doesn’t need to tell you how he feels about this CD so instead of a standard review, he’s highlighting a few unreleased and forthcoming tracks from this mix. Royal-T – Orangeade V.I.P An epic opening number with a Trance-sized build-up, this remix of 2011’s first single from Elijah & Skilliam’s Butterz label feels […]

Sach O sits alone in his four-cornered room staring at empty redbull cans. Pinch & Shackleton is a wonderful exercise in stubbornness. Devoid of easily identifiable signifiers, it’s tempting to tag it with complex genre descriptions – post this and step that. But you’d be missing the point entirely.  This collaboration between two of Dubstep’s […]

Sach O is currently wearing a purple T-shirt. Reactions to Joker’s debut album haven’t matched the thunderous of his early singles but this isn’t necessarily as dramatic as some would have you believe. Yes – he took a risk and it didn’t quite work out but why release an album otherwise? Underground dance music lives […]
