Peter Holslin
Peter Holslin is a freelance journalist, music writer, and musician originally from San Diego, Calif. He was born in 1986. He is super chill, can make a fine cappuccino, enjoys a good hike, often makes up words, and prefers goat meat to every other kind of meat.

Though he spends much of his time tearing his hair out and punching himself in the face trying to perfect his writerly craft, he also occasionally makes weird beats and songs. Hit him up on Twitter - https://twitter.com/peterholslin.

Peter Holslin smashed a dude’s oud once. I haven’t done drugs in years, but if somebody offered me some qat right now, I’d chew on that shit in a heartbeat. A plant indigenous to the Horn of Africa and Arabian Peninsula, qat (also spelled khat) has been a cornerstone to certain circles of African and […]
Photo: Aaron Eudaley Peter Holslin re-watched Dr. Giggles in research for this post. In the world of Marvel Comics, the Infinity Gauntlet is perhaps the most powerful weapon a bad guy could wield. A golden glove festooned with six shining “Infinity Gems”—representing power, space, time, mind, soul and reality—it gives the person wearing it complete […]
It never rains in San Diego. I guess some people think that’s a good thing, but I think it sucks. I love the fresh smell that comes with rain, the warmth of staying inside, and the sound of cars streaking by. I like the grey skies and gloom: Staying indoors and wallowing in a bed […]
Peter Holslin speaks fluent Dothraki Speak Soon Volume One may be the closest that experimental beat music gets to easy listening. A new EP featuring Prefuse 73 and Teebs—two celebrated producers from the headiest hinterlands of instrumental hip-hop, coming together here under the name Sons of the Morning. It offers 28 minutes of smeary synth […]
Peter Holslin invented ice cream. If I ever get married, I’m hiring DJ Amr Haha to do the reception. A producer from Egypt, he and his cohorts—MCs Sadat and Alaa Fifty Cent—have redefined what it means to celebrate a newlywed’s vows. Here in America, we eat some cake, sip some champagne and maybe try to […]
Peter Holslin is the seventh member of New Edition. I was two years old when Don’t Be Cruel came out. Bobby Brown was not a name I recognized. I knew nothing of this New Jack Swing classic. My only experience with New Jack Swing would come a few years later, with Vanilla Ice’s cameo on […]
Peter Holslin helped pioneer the bouzoki. I expected something strange when the news first broke that Syrian singer Omar Souleyman was teaming up with U.K. electronics conjurer Four Tet. Souleyman is a fairly straight-ahead musician—his raspy Arabic folk-pop jams just go, putting groove above all else. While Four Tet has a better ear for texture […]
Peter Holslin will eat some goat after this Plenty of heavy hitters have guest spots on Jay-Z’s new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. Frank Ocean. Rick Ross. Justin Timberlake. Nas. Pharrell. Timbaland. Beyoncé. But here in the city of San Diego, the hip-hop heads are way more excited about the appearance of a far-less-famous artist: Gonjasufi, […]
