Chris Daly
Chris Daly is without question the greatest writer named Chris Daly ever to grace the pages of Passion of the Weiss. He was one of the first music bloggers ever to address Nigerian speed rap, an accolade which doesn't get him laid, even in Nigeria. Over the years, he has written for such varied outlets as this one, Odd Bloggings, Les Enfants Terribles, Rollo & Grady, Big Yawn, Jedi News and a really bitching piece on bed bugs for Hotel Management. Daly claims to be the only PotW writer to have seen Tupac as a back-up dancer for Digital Underground, Heavy D. (when both he and all the Boyz still were alive and kicking), Slick Rick (before he went to jail) and the original 3 Feet High and Rising Tour. When not perfecting his beat boxing skills, he enjoys cosplaying his two kids in 80s B-Boy and B-Girl finery. Daly really hopes this blogging thing eventually pays off, as he is not looking forward to the chiropractic bills sure to arise from all the dookie chains he keeps heaping on his offspring.

Chris Daly is cold as ice yet unwilling to sacrifice. Shit gets rough in the wintertime. You don’t need me to tell you that. Unless you’re living in some unnatural environment, there’s never enough sunlight, it’s colder than a battle rapper’s baby’s mama, and god damn if even your dog doesn’t seem to be pissier […]
Chris Daly regrets investing his children’s college tuition in Eastman Kodak. Time upon a once, jazz very much informed hip hop, with artists from Stetsasonic to A Tribe Called Quest using their parents’ record collections to form the backbone of their beats. As Q-Tip sagely pointed out, however, “don’t you know that things go in […]
Chris Daly can tell that you’re from Kowloon Bay as opposed to Hong Kong. Let’s get this out of the way and keep this 100 from the get-go–I ride HARD for Mecca:83. Ever since the Manchester beat maestro dropped “3 for Free” back in April of 2010, i’ve been intrigued by his mastery of late […]
Chris Daly once killed a man using only a stale fruit cake. If you want to know what we think of Run the Jewels self-titled album, look no further than our Top 50 Albums of 2013 list, so there’s no need to rehash that here.  What you may be less of aware of, though, is […]
Chris Daly has been to a Hofbrau Haus or two. Germany. Land of beer steins and wurst (or techno and shizer videos, depending on your tastes. I don’t judge.) For an American, it can be a different kind of place. While I personally found the people very friendly on my sole visit to date, they […]
Chris Daly would be the highest person at the 7 Days of Funk Release Party tonight if he lived in LA. In a year largely dominated by the likes of Kanye, the Arcade Fire, and BIG DEAL, SELF-IMPORTANT ALBUMS, it’s nice to come across a little project that’s simply a good time waiting to be […]
Chris Daly invented the mullet. Semi-obscure hip-hop trivia time, kids, and no Google cheating. Who was the first band signed to the Beastie Boys’ ill-fated Grand Royal label who incidentally just released a brand, spanking new album? Here’s a hint: they played the high school band in the “Dance Fever” episode of “The Adventures of […]
Look, you’ve been in college for more than a minute now, and it’s as good a time as any to do a little self-assessment on your freshman year so far. Let’s be honest with ourselves, things have not gone quite according to plan. Sure, you didn’t mean to get faced at that kegger and puke […]
Chris Daly also favors insurrections. By their very nature, compilation albums tend to be very hit or miss affairs, but when you have a stable of artists and quality control that rivals Berlin-based Project: Mooncircle, odds are your beats will beat said odds. On their 2013 edition, Uprising, my theory remains intact. On each of […]
Chris Daly will sign your autograph when he comes back from his tour. Gather round, old heads and young alike.  Here’s a very abridged history lesson for all all hip-hop fans. Kenny Parker, brother of KRS-ONE, unearthed some tapes of old KRS-One sessions and shared them on the Frozen Files radio show on EVR. Over […]
