Chris Daly knows it’s never his fault.
Summer hasn’t even officially started yet, and I’m already planning for September 8th, the scheduled release date for Nosaj Thing’s next album, Parallels. This follow-up to 2015’s Fated will feature additional guest spots by such artists as Blonde Redhead vocalist Kazu Makino and Yuri Marley (yes, those Marleys), as Nosaj further explores the binary flavors that make up his everyday existence. To pique the piquant portion of your ears, the L.A. beat smith has dropped, “All Points Back To U,” featuring UK underground soul impresario, Steve Spacek (nee Steve White, of the on again/off again Spacek Sound System).
“All Points Back to U” finds the young Jason Chung dropping chunky synth lines over crisp percussion, creating a woozy beat that instantly allows Spacek to find, catch, and hold a groove. The Ghostly single tells the tale of an apparently jilted lover who doesn’t want to blame his partner for their break-up, but nonetheless, the fault clearly is not the singers. “I ain’t pointing fingers, but it all points back to you,” Spacek intones and cajoles as Nosaj envelops the listener with his progressive bass tendencies. Bitter resentment has seldom sounded so good. September can’t get here fast enough.
