If you don’t actually read this site’s bylines, you’re missing out on crucial information—like the fact that I now have a bi-weekly radio show on New York’s East Village Radio. Birds in the Sky (named after the legendary D Double E tune) is my attempt at summing up everything going on in the scene, much like an audio version of what I do here on this site. It’s also an opportunity to feature some killer guest mixes from producers and DJs that are making noise right now, including this first one from Los Angeles’ Letta. His debut LP Testimony continues to be a favorite of mine this year, and this mix covers much of the same blissed out darkness while also featuring uptempo bangers and some choice vocals. Then there’s his Elliot Smith refix, which—let’s be real—is probably the most unexpected thing you’ll hear in a grime mix this year, and also one of the coolest.
