Vince Staples might be the best rapper in the world right now. Very high praise, but if you are using Jay-Z’s metrics, he may get the edge because his interviews are very clearly hotter. (First team all-interview team alongside Killer Mike, Earl,Kanye, and Gates).
I interviewed him recently for The Fader and so am mildly biased, but it is a pretty wild interview. The sequel is this conservation with Peter Rosenberg. If you have been reading this site for any duration, you can count on one hand the number of times we have ever posted YouTube interviews. But then Tyler the Creater crashes through and shouts out the Fader interview, so if you don’t trust my judgment, trust his. You can always trust a man in tie-dye. Then they start freestyling over the “ATLiens” and “No Time” instrumentals. Good moment in American rap music.
