Will Schube is too young to burn
Sonny and the Sunsets are great at weaving disparate ideas into something joyous and memorable. They have been skewing the indie pop landscape since they first gained recognition in 2007 with Tomorrow is Alright. There’s a giggly nature to the music Sonny creates, even when the topics he tackles aren’t necessarily breezy and light. The music is endearing, and the band’s latest track, “The Application”, is certainly in that same vain—a sort of gallivanting romp.
The track begins with a Beach Boys melody and a guitar line part spaghetti western part psychedelic Disney soundtrack. The lyrics are rather playful, as Smith sings, “I lit my telephone and answered my cigarette”. The new album Talent Night as the Ashram drops Feb. 17th. via Polyvinyl Records, where Smith is described as “bizarre” “scrappy” and “deranged”. You can add “joyous” “memorable” and “inventive” to his bio with “The Application”.
