Son Raw’s got a degree in snapping

This week’s mix comes from Maryland’s College Hill, an up and coming producer whose music I first encountered last year when he dropped his killer (and to me, underrated) Statement of Intent VIP on UK Trends. Combining Grime’s percussive matrix with faster than average tempos and really original use of electric guitar fuzz, the single stood out from the glut of copy cat tunes, and the subsequent stream of dubs that hit my inbox and radio show in the following months only confirmed his talent. With that in mind, this latest mix is heavy on original production, IDM curveballs and underground favorites – but also goes far beyond what I expected, showcasing dark don’t-call-it-outsider House, the deeper side of Dubstep, high speed Garage and everything in between. Better yet, while the drum patterns and tempos switch up liberally, the substance remains consistently futuristic, making for a coherent listen. To sum it up, while I’m loathe to use any genre tags to describe it, it’s a definite treat for fans of Afrofuturism and forward thinking electronic music in general. Tracklist after the jump.
