Deen will ride or die for Stevie B
Now this is more like it. Forgive the puns in advance, but it’s this kinda simultaneously low-key and inventive sounding shit that made me fall in like with <ahref=”http://iamrochellejordan.tumblr.com/”>Rochelle Jordan’s music two summers ago – which sorta reminds me that we’re probably due a new full-length project from her by now. I know good things take time and all, but damn boo! It’s 2014 and niggas are hella impatient.
The last time I wrote about RoJo in this space, I was whining about some shit I didn’t like, but I won’t dwell on that – it was a dashed off one-off. On the other hand, the new effort, Lowkey, is exactly what I’ve come to expect from RoJo: heavy on the ambience, heavy on the attitude and heavy on the narrative. I suppose it takes time to come up with this kinda dope shit. I approve greatly.
As always, RoJo’s partner in crime, KLSH, steps up to the plate with yet another subdued motif that just happens to mesh perfectly with her low-key vocal approach to this sangin’ shit. My impression of KLSH’s work over the last few years suggests that his production will never sound dated – the guy just combines a ton of good ideas from a variety of sources into an original sound. I’m a little confused that I haven’t seen his name in more places by now.
However, I’m not with the extra contemplating when it comes to matters of the crotch. I’ll give you a protip that’s always worked for this savage, Ms. Jordan: if you tryna get dat crotch, just whip something out or hit the DMs. Success is guaranteed 40% of the time, every time. Too bad she isn’t talking about me in this song – I know this because I’ve only been mildly obsessed with her for 2 years as opposed to the ‘5 or 6’ she notes in the song.
But while RoJo figures out the best way to high-key get naked with
with her ‘friend’, I’ll just continue to feverishly hope that she
drops a new project this summer. It’s been too long and all sorts of lanes are wide open right now. Here’s to the talented taking advantage of these opportunities this summer and beyond.
