Squarewaves replace wobble, beats take the forefront and no one’s sure if it’s supposed to club music, radio music or something in between. It’s 2014 and whispers comparing the night to FWD and (in this reporter’s case) Low End Theory are becoming less and absurd and increasingly accepted. At least a quarter of the artists on this compilation have albums coming and based on all available evidence, none of them will sound remotely the same. Welcome to Boxed Volume 2 – dive right in from the beginning or if you want my personal favorites, I’d recommend Lolingo’s funk sampling New Cross Gate, Murlo’s forceful Hydra, Fallow’s acid-drenched Part Boiled, Strictface’s ethereal Mooncakes and the VIP version of Dark0’s anthemic Sweet Boy Pose.
