This past Thursday, Hellfyre Club and Armand Hammer absolutely destroyed Mercury Lounge in Manhattan. Elucid, Billy Woods, Nocando, Open Mike Eagle, milo and Busdriver were a delight. Or so I thought.
After the show, and after several drinks, we started talking about True Detective. Like everyone else across the country, we couldn’t wait for the show’s finale Sunday night. Theories were being tossed left and right and we threw out our Cohleisms until the bar closed. Then I realized one person had been silent all night, Billy Woods.
Those familiar with Billy Woods know that he doesn’t show his face in photos. And tonight was no different. When he snapped a photo with Open Mike Eagle and Prem Rock, he made sure he stamped himself out.
And then he started mumbling something and went to the bathroom. Soon, all the lights kicked off and only I was left in the bar. I started to hear a rumbling, and out came what some have referred to as “The Spaghetti Monster.” The true story is that the Yellow King lives in Brooklyn and is a microphone terror. God save us all.
