Almost very week, I accompany this post with a major declarative statement to induce you to listen to Shots Fired. That’s a little thing I like to call shameless self-aggrandizement. It’s sincere, as I assume you’re not hate-reading or hate-listening. And if you are, honestly, there’s a lot more interesting stuff to do in this world. As Bun B and Laura Bush once said: go read a book. This week, we had the greatest guest to personally assuage my inner rap nerd: Pharoahe Monche.
If you don’t know Pharoahe, I don’t know if you’ve ever read this website. He is one of the greatest rappers of all-time. No need for any qualifiers. With “Stress,” he wrote the greatest anthem to a high blood pressure lifestyle. His verse on “Oh No” might be in my top five of all-time. With “Simon Says,” he not only revolutionized your perception of Godzilla, but also the entire childhood classic, “Simon Says.” He also has several classic albums under his belt. Maybe there’s something lame about admitting your excitement at interviewing one of your favorite rappers, but fuck it, if you’re a music fan and aren’t down with the Pharoahe, then I will look at you askance. I’m looking at you askance right now. It’s getting awkward. Let’s end this. Go listen.
