Some broiling modern funk out of Miami, complete with the florescent chord progressions and pastel synthesizers that you’d come to expect from the tropical humidity. Psychic Mirrors is a 10-piece disco group who record for a label called Cosmic Chronic Records, which leads me to imagine that they may have touched grass once or twice. As someone who likes to listen to music while higher than Larry David’s hairline, it is a welcome glide. Below the jump is Dreamboat’s “Special Kiss,” which sounds sort of like a Nite Funk outtake.
There’s no way to underestimate the impact that Dam-Funk has had on the revival of the funk sounds. These chords were once dormant and now they’re they’re back in koda-chrome and I need them in my life when I escape to Cuba on my catamaran. In the interim, the collective is doing a West Coast swing that includes an 8/21 Boiler Room showcase, an 8/22 Funkmosphere guest set, and a proper show at LA’s Bootleg on August 30. They’ve also let loose a promo mix from the “Miami Players Club.” There is no Rappin 4-Tay, but I’ll let that one slide.
