Unless you live in Dade County, you might be unfamiliar with Ice “Billion” Berg . If you live in Florida, you probably already know that he’s one of the state’s biggest rappers. Trick Daddy discovered him and gave him a deal when he was still in high school. Rozay apparently offered him one too, but his old contract didn’t expire until this March. Both the crustacean overlord and Don Logan appear on Ice Berg’s latest tape, Rise to Power.
Unlike most of his peers, Ice Berg isn’t trying to get known through bludgeoning trap beats on loop. He’s been doing this for a long time and his grind and sensibility reminds me more of someone like Gates than SpaceghostPurrp, the last young rapper out of Miami to gain national attention. “Be Great” almost sounds like it could have come off an early State Property record. The soul sample, the message of uplift, the doja smoke. His mixtape is below the jump and comes highly recommended for anyone who can empathize with a sense of struggle.
