Somehow IAMSU! didn’t make that XXL Freshman list, which is mildly insane, considering the dude’s sound has been ubiquitous on West Coast radio for the last six months. He produced a large portion of that Shmop Life tape, Loverance’s “Up,” his own solo material, and Sage the Gemini’s “Gas Pedal.” If you haven’t heard the latter, it’s been hot in the Bay for the last year, but recently got added to Power 106. Inevitably, this will lead to LA kids to learn the J12 dance.
The song itself is basically an unofficial sequel to Clyde Carson’s “Slow Down,” but everyone likes sequels so it plays on the hour. Someone needed to figure out how to combine the ingredients of hyphy and jerkin’ with Mannie Fresh and traditional Bay Area pimp and party talk. And as he says in his latest video (below the jump), he does not stop. I would say more but I am pressed for time and you should spend your time learning to J12, anyway.
