Make raw, aggressive, memorable, and funny songs and I will like your music. This goes for all genres except for metal and hardcore. I’m not sure why. My ears just don’t work that way and I loathe being screamed at. Shades of This Boy’s LifeMeg Myers makes female singer-songwriter stuff in the vein of Fiona Apple but not in the Lana Del Rey way (who people ought to let be, but Doc Zeus already handled that).

Myers dropped a new EP last week, a twist that conveniently paralleled my latest Bizarre Ride column on her in LA Weekly. “Monster” was the song that sold me, but “Tennessee” is the song that I love the most. Anyone who mocks beardos in bands with mustache tattoos and headbands and vegan BBQ trucks and Vespas, is cool in my book. Plus, I am also naturally inclined towards all songs with banjos and those named “Tennessee.”
