It’s very hard to impress me with chopped up R&B vocals in 2012 and yet, here we are. I have to admit I was skeptical: 90s R&B is trendy, Juke is trendy and the name +Bongiovanni+ lands closer to a designer Kanye would name-drop than I feel comfortable with. There’s rational explanations for all of those things – the first two because they sound damn good together and the later because that’s actually the artist’s last name. I’d probably rock that one too if I could get away with it, though in my case it’d probably lead to a bong reference. In any case, this is excellent. Calling it a “bootleg” is too modest considering Brandy’s original is Ginsu sliced into bits before getting the Footwork treatment – call it something else and I probably wouldn’t have guessed the sample source. Better yet, this somehow reminds me more of TImbaland or Big Boi than anyone out of Chicago which is a smart move considering that’s double the 90s-mining bang for your POMO buck. 2012: all Juke everything.
