As one might imagine, gospel boogie funk was rarely played during Hannukah celebrations in the Weiss household. For Jews, Hannukah is consolation Christmas. There’s no trees, no ornaments, and certainly no soulful crooning. Have you ever heard “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, I Made it Out of Clay?” I’d rather listen to a Jars of Clay song.
Thankfully, Dam-Funk is here to soundtrack the season for secular and non-secular alike. Two years ago, he delved into his crates to unearth the best excuse for organized religion since “Amish Paradise.” 67 minutes of gorgeous groovy funk so smooth that they’d think they were all sinners. Yes, I just said groovy. Not much gets that adjective, but this goes. Bob your head to it, decorate your tree, cook a latke. Add this onto the soundtrack for the player’s holiday.
