About two weeks ago, Mary Anne Hobbs asked me if I had any interest in being a monthly contributor on her new Music Response program on XFM London. On general principle, I opt to never use Friends analogies, but the request reminded me of the episode where Chandler is trapped in an ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre. If Mary Anne Hobbs asks you to be on her radio show, you say yes. If Mary Anne Hobbs offers you a mangled animal carcass, you say yes.
The idea is to select one LA artist and one song to highlight in each episode. Not necessarily the hottest or the most obscure, just someone doing something worthy of wider attention. I selected Kendrick Lamar’s “A.D.H.D.” You can stream the episode below. I come on around the 2:28:00. I use the word “like” too much. Unfortunately, my lazy LA drawl was not replaced by wry British eloquence as I had requested.
