Slim Thug covered his bases on Tha Thug Show. He has a bubblegum single with B.o.B, a Big K.R.I.T feature for blog readers, a Z-Ro track for some hometown love, and the obligatory Lex Luger anthem with Rick Ross. Ross is right at home as he grunts his way into his elementary rhymes, “Got a Chevy. Got a Benz. Got a connect, he keep me straight, I think he Mexican.” Actually, it’s more like “Mexicaaaaan.” Ross curls the word into a roar and the audience is shown a Mexican person for clarification. Almost every Ross line ends in his voice breaking into a snarl and a well-placed adlib. “Huh!” “Whoop!” “Bawse!” and “Uh” are his favorites. Luger beats demand aggression and Ricky delivers like no one else can.
Ross finally runs out of dumb things to say and tags in Slim Thug, who has cleverer rhymes (“I got stupid money. Make a bitch fall in love, call it cupid money.”), but lacks Ross’ gruffness. He plays a decent enough tough guy, but his coolness is slightly out of place in the video. “How We Do It” flits between obscene displays of wealth and images of poverty. Ross’ imperious demeanor and trapped out beard blend right in. Thugga’s casual disposition and trimmed beard – not so much. But Slim Thug provides a welcome respite from the barking and primitive rhyming that can make Luger tracks repetitive and annoying.
