First things first, I was not behind the rainbow-colored flyer. But when you book a show with a Rainbow-named band, the iridian aesthetic is a no-brainer. Besides, Killa Cam would approve and that’s the only co-sign I need (no Freakey). Following a several month hiatus in which I convalesced and collected the splintered shards of my mind (thanks to Mount Kimbie’s performance at the last show and a bourbon binge gone terribly right), the Passion of the Weiss Presents series returns on March 25 at the Echoplex.
The bill includes Kompakt-signed globetrotters Rainbow Arabia and South African former Fader cover boy Spoek Mathambo. Don’t let the latter distinction dissuade you, Spoek is one of the most ferocious live performers around and last year’s Mshini Wam is probably the best record that we completely ignored. To quote the assistant to one of the greatest fashion designers to ever brainwash a male model: our mistake indeed. Expect actual posts, shameless self-promotion, and treatises on Jacob Zuma’s bizarre hygiene habits in the days leading up to the event. In the meantime, tickets are on sale for $10, a pot of gold, or a pot of pot.
Edit: Matthewdavid has been added to the lineup to assuage the beat-inclined and for general awesomeness.
