I imagine the reference point for this was “All About the Benjamins” as re-envisioned featuring a bearded white Wisconsite troubadour. There is truth to the rumor that Jay-Z’s verse was inspired by Bon Iver’s tale of his super-spooky night singing songs at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary. This is the first thing that Kanye has released post-Swiftboating that I enjoy, even if he has sold his turntables to make Yes records.
It could also use a sample of Charlize Theron on Arrested Development asking Michael to keep the lights on to see if he has “a monster.”
