“Connect and network, that’s the part of the game that no one understands” –Raekwon. So says the chef, which explains why two decades deep the Clan commands a stature that stands up to easy Beatles comparisons. No one will ever confuse the Wu’s run between 2000 and 2008 with the Beatles of 62-70, but the first leak from the Mathematics curated, Return of the Wu & Friends, proves that in between their day-to-day routine of blunts and big swimming pools, the Clan found time to make some excellent unreleased tunes. The name of “Clap 2010” ostensibly indicates recent recording, but judging from the one-sheet accompanying the track, it’s only a remix. Either way, Rae, Ghost, Meth, and um, Mr, Xcitement can only mean a song that you will want, and since my Wu-Tang fandom compels me to help Corey Woods connect and network, here it is. There is nothing new about this kind of song, which is fine. Artists should be allowed to work within the boundaries of genre’s they helped create.
