Zilla Rocca Radio-The Ghostface Episode

December 22nd, 2007

I’ve spent most of the morning listening to my man Zilla’s Ghostface podcast. Definitely worth your time on this pre-Xmas Saturday.

Check it out.

And as a bonus, here’s Zilla’s re-working of Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R. remix.” Also highly recommended.

The Wu Coming Through

November 24th, 2007

This is going to take a while to unravel, but on first listen, it’s clear that at the very least, 8 Diagrams > Iron Flag.

Your thoughts?

Strangely Enough, The Number of Indian Chlamydia Cases Has Skyrocketed

November 13th, 2007

The AP has already retracted this, so I imagine it was all a hoax. But whatever genius planted this definitely deserves some sort of medal. Though I will say that I always suspected that if Hilton was going to dedicate her life to helping elephants, I’d have guessed that it would have something to do with better conditions in the bone yard.

New Ghostface-The Big Dough Rehab

October 10th, 2007

Apparently in an effort to save itself from total insolvency, the recording industry is now taking tips from Hollywood. Meaning sequels. So by the logic that Kanye Vs. 50 ended up actually making everyone go to the record shop for the first time in years, the powers that-be are now presumably trying to make every single big release an “event.” So mark your calendars because Dec. 4th is going to be ridiculous, with the the new Ghostface album, The Big Dough Rehab, the Wu’s 8 Diagrams and uh….The Carter III. As Ian Cohen said, “The Internet’s gonna’ be a fun place that day.”I’m supposed to be interviewing Ghost next Tuesday. Which means I’ll probably end up sitting alone with Sean Wiggs. Hopefully, his weed carrier title will prove to be valid.Download:

Because if He Actually Goes Through With It I Will Really Party As Though It Were My Birthday

August 11th, 2007

So like does this mean I have to pay actual money for the Kanye West CD. Because I will do it. As much I don’t want to buy Kanye another conflict-free diamond-studded ivory back scratcher, I’ll buy his stupid record just to never have to hear 50 Cent rhyme “bacardi” with “party” again. Though I’m not sure how the world will go on without 50? Did people rap before him? And if so, how did people know what type of champagne to buy or what flavor of Vitamin Water to drink?

Party Like a Blogster

August 5th, 2007

So I really was resisting the urge to make some sort of inane punny headline for this Aug. 23 event that I’m co-promoting. Then I realized that the event in question is called Now Blog This V. 2.0! Yeah, I know.

But name difficulties aside, this event is going to be the best party/concert/blog clusterfuck in the history of party/concert/blog clusterfucks. Of course, you’re probably asking yourself what makes this night more special than any other night? No, there will be no Matzah (I presume), instead we will be treated to performances from some of the best unleavened bands in the city of Los Angeles.

Each blogger chose one band to play. With my first round draft pick, I took the Deadly Syndrome, arguably the most electrifying live band in LA right now. Aquarium Drunkard tabbed the awesomeness that is Le Switch, while Kevin Bronson picked Orange County’s Aushua. Lastly, LA Underground selected Phoenix and the Turtle, a band who I have yet to hear. Hopefully, they will bring live turtles and Phoenixes on-stage. In between sets, Joe from Radio Free Silverlake and Jax from Rock Insider will be DJ’ing.

The bottom line is you have no excuse not to come. If nothing else for the opportunity to enact some sort of pernicious scheme that could single-handedly wipe out 97 percent of LA’s music bloggers in one fall swoop. Rumor has it, good times will be had by all.

P.S. Punch and Pie will be served.
