Torii MacAdams is a gunner by blood not relation
Dust off your reggae and dancehall playlists, actual Jamaicans, weed smokers, barbecuers, ackee and saltfish eaters, and cultural tourists, it’s nearly summer. For those looking for a middle ground between blindingly stoned dub reggae and penis fracturing (seriously) reggae, Swindle’s remix of “Party With You,” featuring Sweetie Irie, is appropriately a very irie sweet spot.
While Benny Page’s original skews toward the softer side of jungle (a genre heavily influenced by Jamaican music and soundsystem culture), Swindle’s remix even further mellows out Sweetie Irie’s autotuned pleadings for partying with you. Swindle, grime’s answer to Dam-Funk, is normally a proponent of forward-looking jazz interpretations, but his “Party With You” remix mostly bears the brassy horns emblematic of of early ska and rocksteady. Swindle’s “Party With You” remix won’t awaken you from a kush coma, nor will it force you to impregnate every woman in a 15 foot radius, but it will make you shake your ass while you’re grilling jerk chicken.
