If you’re a broke ass cat who is into the indie beat scene, there are far worse times to be alive than right now. In an effort to break through the clutter in an otherwise overcrowded musical landscape, seems like every producer/DJ and their mother are dropping free joints with an alarming alacrity these days. Hell, I’m surprised artists like Bonobo haven’t simply fallen over from sheer exhaustion. Whether it’s something in the water, the weed or the air, there are certain artists who clearly think there will be time enough for resting when they’re dead. i think it might be time to add our favorite half-English, half-Mauritian producer, Mo Kolours, to this camp of the sleep deprived.
In advance of his upcoming, European “Pan Galactic Tour,” MK has shared “You (Wailer),” another tribal, yet soul-infused gem, because, you know, artists tend to have a lot of free time on their hands pre-tour. Naturally, this comes on the heels of dropping his self-titled, strong debut earlier this year, coupled with various mixes and videos for seemingly every outlet worth a damn. Starting with nothing more than some bongos, shakers and the occasional grunt, the track kicks into overdrive just past the one minute mark when the Chaka Kahn loop drops. While there is nothing simplistic about the One-Handed Music signed producer’s music, for some reason, this strikes me as the perfect technological music for a pre-technological age. In other words, if you gave an Amazonian tribe a working copy of Serato or Fruity Loops, this is the kind of music I imagine would ensue.
