Harold Stallworth doesn’t know how to spell Basquiat.

The bad news is that the latest leak from Cormega’s long-awaited sixth album, Mega Philosophy, bears the unfortunate title of “Rap Basquiat.” The good news is that said record, produced by the incomparable Large Professor, is the furthest thing from shallow art gallery bluster. Drake would be especially proud. Mega closes his final verse with a grain of wisdom that one would expect to encounter inside the fold of a fortune cookie, or the spine of a bestselling Robert Greene book, but probably not an underground rap song.

Before giving the floor to comedian Tony Rock for a bit of harmless fist waving, he raps, urgently, “dedication is a measure of strength and character.” It’s an adage that holds true for virtually every trade under the sun—from crime to rhyme, street corners to panel-mounted cubicles. His unique brand of earnestness has always served most effective in this exact capacity.
