KR may or may not have heard of My Morning Jacket’s “Off the Record,” which before I can even finish, I will proclaim as the greatest “Off the Record” of all-time. However, the 18-year old in the Dodgers fitting is bucking for most chill 2014 summer vibes with his latest video that opens with him supine in the sand. He hits the basics: the Crenshaw street sign shot, the Slauson swap meet shot, the white tee in the video shot, the downtown LA on the horizon shot, the surrounded by sneakers shot, the Venice boardwalk shot, the Backwoods endorsement. There’s even a reference to being “hip-hop’s human sacrifice.”

For all the slightly obvious Rapper-In-LA signifiers, there’s a smoothness and affability to it. Beyond the Kendrick reference, it vaguely reminds of me of Blu’s ocean breeze-blunted early work. Or maybe the first Joey Bada$$ first mixtape minus the need to scream out every four bars that he once bought an Illmatic cassette off of eBay. Either way, KR exhibits a lot of talent, particularly for someone who was 3 years old when Chronic 2001 dropped. You should keep checking for him because time is a flat brim.

There are more of his videos below the jump, which you can watch with your Yasel Puig bobblehead and Crucial Conflict overalls.
