Should you ever question the devotion of Boosie fans, watch the above video of Bad Azz performing “Set It Off” in Cashville. He doesn’t even need to rap, they roar back every word. During my savage life sabbatical in BR, I played “Set it Off” for a pair of girls, who looked at me and laughed like I was very elementary. “What is this, Junior High school?” Then they rapped every single word and got their mail. So it goes.

Proving the rule that jail time only makes you more hotter in the rap world, Boosie has been making the New York media rounds. There was a Complex interview where he announced that his album will drop on July 15. No mixtapes. There are also forthcoming appearances on Combat Jack and on Hot 97, which I look forward to hearing. In the interim, Boosie’s camp dropped “Pray for Me,” which sounds like it was released in 09 before the prison bid. The evidence is the shout out to riding around with Bleek. The latter was his best friend, tragically murdered four months after Boosie was forced to rock the orange jumpsuit. There’s also a mention to Lil Ivy, another best friend slain years earlier, who repeatedly pops up in the music like if Banquo’s ghost had signed to Bad Azz Ent.

The new old song lines up the “Wipe Me Down” murderer’s row of Boosie, Foxx and Webbie. It’s not about to crash the charts, but it’s the bell-ringing Bayou struggle rap that got him famous like the ninja turtles. I’m posting shaky footage from Boosie’s recent string of concerts because it all still seems surreal. Boosie benchpress workout video coming soon.
