This is Cozz. He’s 20 years old and part of a clique from South Central called Tha Committee. I’m hesitant to call this era a gangsta-rap revival, because gangsta rap never left, it just went into a lull. This has same hallmarks from the police cars to the pit bulls to dice games and gun fire. Dreams of getting rich never die, they’re just deferred or permanently canceled.

Cozz might be the best new rapper from the LA that I’ve heard in the last year. He’s got the stick-up kid growl and the Southern bounce, hailing from the city always up to no good. His debut mixtape, Cozz & Effect drops sometime this spring, which should be a very good thing.
