BET Hip Hop Awards '09 - ShowThis old picture of Boosie is everything: the jewels, the paternal love, the gap-toothed impish grin.  I digress. There are two reasons for this post. The first is that in case you missed it, Boosie remains incarcerated, despite the spate of racist hoax stories that disseminated across the web earlier this week.

I spoke with his attorneys this weekend when I was in New Orleans and they assured me that his release remains imminent. He’s doing well in Angola or at least as well as you can do when you’re in Angola. He’s lifting weights and writing letters and taking classes. He’s supposed to finish the latter sometime in late March. They told me that his release should be in May. However, May might well mean June or July. They also let me know that the hard drives are back in their possession and Boosie should be able to drop an album almost immediately upon release.

In the interim, I came across this DJ Ya Boy Earl-presented tape from Baton Rouge’s Doonie that came out last November. It features what I believe to be a previously unheard Boosie verse. The rest of the tape also has guest spots from Max Minelli, Young Bleed, Level, and Mister Cain. As you might expect, it’s bell-ringing murder muzik from the bottom of the boot. No room for nuance, but there are blaxploitation samples and very hard rapping about illegal acts and vices. If you like Louisiana rap, this might be the most slept-on tape from the state last year, very much in the vein of classic Trill and Concentration Camp.
