Have you ever noticed that the golden eras for black movie soundtracks coincide with the surge and resurgence of the American durag? Perhaps if we all wore our stocking caps to work next week, The Alchemist would score the next Steve McQueen film. In the meantime, dig this: at the behest of the Passion of the Weiss editorial staff, I’ve compiled upward of an hour of top-tier jams lifted from a dozen-odd Blaxploitation flicks. Keeping with the seasonal theme, the tracklist is interspersed with hard nosed, winter-appropriate New York rap. Inspired by the likes of Black Ceasar, Coffy, and The Mack, this mix is sure to invite terms like “jive,” “georgiaed,” and “Gerald Ford” into an otherwise square vernacular.
