artworks-000059849351-dtxk0x-t500x500Salva stays savage mixing 15 HBK and Bay Area slaps into a thirty minute mix in advance of IAMSU, Kool John, and Sage the Gemini’s Check Yo Ponytail show this Friday at the Echoplex. I shouldn’t feel the need to repeat myself with these dudes. Su was on Shots Fired. Peace, Love & Shmoplife is one of the most unsung tapes of the year. HBK is the Bay Area analogue to Mustard, YG, and Ty$, but it’s difficult to draw lines between them. The distance between the Bay and Southern California is probably closer than it has been since Ant Banks and Celly Cel were releasing northern G-Funk records. Salva understands rap music better than any dance producer I’m familiar with and his remixes and gear shifts reveal a man extremely slick with the gas pedal.

The latter hit belongs to Sage the Gemini, whose unofficial “Slow Down” sequel continues to make J12 dances break out. His latest hit, “Red Nose” is starting a different dance craze, proving that if you can get teenagers to dance, you will stay paid faster than you can say “Pee Wee Herman.” This is a great mix. Don’t get any speeding tickets.
