The best defense for liking a rap song is, it’s fun. Of course, fun is subjective. People have been trying to tell me that French Montana is fun, but I find his music as boring as watching grass groan.

Neither Y.G. nor Joe Moses are about to dazzle anyone at any point with anything resembling lyricism. “Burn Rubber” is about as original as the sixth Fast & Furiousest. But I think it’s fun. Ergo. Majority of the credit goes to DJ Mustard, who discovered a magical land between Louisiana rap and jerkin’ as though it was The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and the closet was filled with entirely leopard and leather.

“Burn Rubber” exists for only one reason: to make people dance in clubs and drive fast. I usually do neither of those things, but it gives a good sales pitch. The obvious next line to close this out with is that Mustard is on a roll, but I will spare you. Sort of. But right now, he is so on that he could probably get Papoose a hit. Maybe Kendrick can hook them all up.
