Your first instinct is to peg Greg Grease as a sort-of Midwestern Joey Bad$$. There are Wu and Common references in his song titles. He clearly has spent his time memorizing the Native Tongues monologues and this beat sounds like a mystical fog of flutes. When you hear flutes over hard drums, you think one of two things: 90s rap or Aqualung.

But as the great Nate Patrin pointed out: “he’s got wider flow variation and a more contemporary ear for beats, even if he’s also a product of that sort of stylistically indistinct/rootless Minneapolis aesthetic. Dude’s not spectacular yet, but he’s definitely at that early-stage phase where he looks like he’s on his Miguel Sano and could be something amazing after another year or so of seasoning.”

I mean, how can you not like someone who named his debut album after a 1975 basketball movie starring Jamaal Wilkes. You can stream it below the jump.
