Full review coming later. In the meantime, the $3,000,000 question is do you think Sony/RCA will regret giving that kind of money to a dude without even an official mixtape to his name? How much of that price tag is a reaction to the suits still mad that they didn’t pay Odd Future when they had the chance? And how much of the real rap game money now comes from hoodie sales? Let’s just hope that six months from now, Asap won’t have corporate brass begging him to let Pitbull be on the “Peso” remix. I will be rooting for Rocky to win.

Asap Rocky will prevail! This tape is fresh as fuck. According to all his interviews he is a humble, talented and open minded dude. And he has star appeal. Charismatic. If this does not work, it is definitley not his fault. And ODD Future is to gimmicky, feels too forced to be successfull. The ASAP crew on the other hand comes across naturally and honest. And face it: The Beats are new yet inspired by many influences and the over all vibe is that old school NYCV/Big Apple/How to make it in America/ Blondie/Fab 5 Freddy/ Keith Haring Downtown Flair, the Big Apple/ Center Of the World flavor which could bring NYC back on the forefront of Hip Hop.

I’m diggin the positivity and belief in Rocky, as I agree; this tape is impressive. Although the only thing I don’t understand is why he is continually being tied in with the New York sound. Every single one of these beats drips with the sound of dissolved Jolly Ranchers, and the cadence influences range across the board from the southern greats of Houston, Atlanta, and Memphis, and they even throw in a Bone Thugs delivery here and there. This record is great, but not because its a “‘New York record”, or showcases the “New York sound”, but because its a bunch of New York kids, free from the traditional constraints of their cultural region (thank you, internet), making sluuded, Trill shit.
Side note: Clams Casino fucking brings it on this tape.
Extra Side note: This record made me realize how hard it is to find syrup in LA…..

Damn. I wanted a CDQ of “Toast to the Gods”. Didn’t make it on the tape.

On initial listen it sounds like what I wanted a Wiz Khalifa album to sound like

So I see he’s saving the Jim Jones collabo for later.
