Danny Brown does too many drugs to really be the rap Frank Zappa, nor does he sport so lustrous a mustache. Then again, they both have contrarian natures, a love of groupies, and berserk intensity. I guess the tiebreaker is where the Hybrid stands on hippies.

Due to the nimble-fingered flock of thieves and charlatans that I associate with, I’ve been bumping Black & Brown for sometime now. Anyone who prefers Hybrid to XXX will be bugging out like Gus Fring. If the latter was the art-rap conceptual opus, Black & Brown is just gutter rhymes over grimy beats. There are so many rewindable lines on “Zap” alone. “Smoking on some thunder from the land of Supersonic” is almost good enough to appease my anger at David Stern. That, some weed the color of Raptor jerseys, and peaches and regalia.
