Evan Nabavian may or may not have that zan with that lean.
Ludacris and Bun B are outstanding rappers whose output is polluted with filler and trash. In the case of Bun, the cause is his compulsion to give a verse to anyone who asks nicely. His ubiquity seems to come from a place of benevolent mentorship rather than a Weezy-like whorishness, but the effect is the same. Luda’s situation is more tragic. His 2008 album Theater of the Mind had appearances by Jay-Z, Nas, Common, Lil Wayne, Game, Rick Ross, T-Pain, and DJ Premier and he magically made it all work. All of it. Even the song with Plies. But the album flopped and Luda’s next was the bubblegum bullshit Battle of the Sexes, which put him back on the charts.
I can’t listen to every Ludacris/Bun B song that comes up in Google Reader because so much of it is Ace Hood effluvium. But I know to pay attention when they work with the right people. Rising rapper producer Big K.R.I.T. scored the ultimate Southern cosign by getting both of them on the “Country Shit” remix, where they all rap at the highest caliber. K.R.I.T.’s Pimp C-derived thump inspires passionate performances all around and quick flashing images of country shit (country country shit). Personally, I think the world is ready for a rap video with shots of people eating polo khoresh gheimeh and tah dig. Maybe Farez and Andy will do it.
