Abe Beame traded in his Timbos for some suede wally Moccasins.

My tastes these days generally run against the grain of the chest beating 41st-siders who won’t stop talking about Action Bronson and still rock oversized Yankee fitteds over doo rags. And on paper, Pete Rock and Smiff N Wessun has the same kind of “you done anything in 5 years? Me neither!” feel that is becoming increasingly popular among the Golden Era deity collabs in an attempt to wrestle 12 bucks from the fanboys.

That said, this shit cranks. It sounds more like Primo than Pete, (hey, Tek, Steele, what are the fucking Beatminerz up to?) very lush, stringy and super produced in a late 90s kind of way, and the best thing about it is New York’s most consistent rapper, Styles P, stealing the show in classic cadence crushing mode. “That’s Hard” has officially piqued my interest in Monumental, dropping June 21st, despite the Memphis Bleek cameo.
