If Kode 9 was Don King, Burial would be nicknamed the messiah of monochrome. Thankfully, Steve Goodman’s hair isn’t that irate and William Bevan gets to preserve his semi-anonymous existence. But new Burial is cause for ceremony. I remember hearing neither of these last year, but I remember very little from last year or last week. These things happen. Listening to these, it makes perfect sense that Burial listens to tapes of whales communicating for fun. His music conveys emotions with a primacy that can’t be expressed by syllables. So I’ll stop here.

Seems like if he was truly a “Burial purist,” he’d shut the fuck up and let the song play out. But then again, I’m an opinionated ass. Thanks for these regardless. There was a time when I wasn’t fully sold on this cat. That must’ve been some time before I read this brilliant Wire interview with him: http://www.thewire.co.uk/articles/347.
