Thanks to a savage flu that left me near collapse at a 7-11 in Monterrey Park (glamorous), I missed Mulatu’s Timeless Performance from last year. Thankfully, Quantic has released his live DJ set from the evening, a mix consisting of all original vinyl excavated from the record bins of Addis Ababa. Empyrean horn sections, organ lines hotter than hell, and mystic cantillations– that wild Amharic funk birthed by a man who crafted his singular style above the clouds in the Ethiopian highlands and merged it with a worship of Duke Ellington and Latin jazz. Recommended with a dinner at Rosalind’s.

It’s like reliving my dinner at Nyala last night (Rosalind’s may be better)… Except even more satisfying.
