I’ve been meaning to write about Boulder-based Alex B’s excellent Moments for the last month, but a Low End Theory appearance finally compelled me to do a post about it at Pop & Hiss. For fans of my most Cam’ron-purple prose, here’s what I had to say about “Getting to Know You,” the latest leak from the man whose fractured but funky sonics put him in line with peers like Nosaj Thing, Take, and Free the Robots: “Bookended by Lilla D’mone’s buoyant coo, “Getting to Know You” is partly trip-hop reinvented for the medical marijuana set, partly a phosphorous ball of energy, compacted with gently curving synths and giddy drum patterns. Like the album itself, it’s a wonderful contradiction: simultaneously despondent and danceable, brooding and brightly lit, the sort of record best listened to in the occult hours, buried underneath an avalanche of elements — whether chemical or climatic.”

By far, my fave DJ/producer these days.
Speaking of which, can we come up w/ a new designation for what these cats do? DPro sounds like something one would take for a wobbly weiner, but you get the point.
